James Anderson

Head of Corporate Government Affairs, GlaxoSmithKline,

In his role as Head of Corporate Government Affairs, James leads engagement with the UK Government to deliver our strategic corporate agenda, spanning our pharmaceuticals, vaccines, consumer, R&D and Manufacturing businesses. His team identify opportunities for partnering with the government and works to identify and mitigate risks.

James leads GSK advocacy on Antimicrobial Resistance. He helped launch the €650m Innovative Medicines Initiative AMR PPP, New Drugs for Bad Bugs, partnering with the EU Commission and has worked with the O’Neill Commission, WHO, Chatham House, Brookings and other Government programmes.

James also works to improve patient access to innovative medicines. He was an early advocate for Adaptive Pathways and leads GSK’s engagement in the EMA’s AP pilot and the UK’s Accelerated Access Review. This builds on James’ previous role as Partnerships Director, during which time he developed and led multiple partnerships with stakeholders including regulators, HTA agencies,patients and budget holders, to improve the way we develop and commercialise our products.James is the Vice-Chair of the Healthcare Taskforce to the OECD and Chair of the ABPI AMR Network.He has a MBA from Harvard Business School and a Molecular Biology degree from Cambridge.
