Rania Al-Mashat

Rania Al-Mashat (Ph.D., University of Maryland, College Park, 2001) is an Advisor at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), where she focuses on monetary policy frameworks and financial stability analysis. Her responsibilities in the Research Department tap on years of experience managing Egypt’s macroeconomic transition in the most challenging periods of its recent history, where she served as Sub-Governor for Monetary Policy at the Central Bank of Egypt. She had several board affiliations, including on the Egyptian Stock Exchange, the General Authority for Free Zones and Investment, the Arab International Bank, the Arab Investment Bank.

She was an Adjunct Professor of Economics at American University of Cairo and a lecturer at the Egyptian Banking Institute. She is a Research Fellow at the Economic Research Forum for Arab countries, Iran and Turkey. In 2014, Al-Mashat was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and chosen to be a part of their Expert Network in 2017. She was recognized in 2014 and 2015 one of the Economic Leaders for Tomorrow in Africa by Institut Choiseul of Paris. Prior to joining the CBE, she was a Senior Economist at the IMF and covered a number of emerging Asian economies, including India and Vietnam, with research focused on monetary policy formulation and transmission as well as structural reforms.
