Tony Barber

Tony Barber has been Europe editor and associate editor for the Financial Times based in London since September 2011. He writes extensively on European business topics, as well as financial and political developments in the region.

Before these appointments, Tony Barber had been special reports editor since August 2010. He was previously the Brussels bureau chief and before that he was Rome bureau chief for the Financial Times, a position he held since 2002. Before moving to Rome, Tony was Frankfurt bureau chief from 1998 to 2002. He joined the Financial Times in 1997 as European news editor.

Previously at the Independent (1990-97) and Reuters (1981-90) he held a variety of editing and reporting posts in Western and Eastern Europe and the United States.

He is a graduate of St John’s College, Oxford University, where he achieved a first class honours degree in modern history.
