Fuzhan Xie

President of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, former Vice-President of Development Research Center of the State Council,

Born in August, 1954, Xie Fuzhan is Senior Research Fellow and Doctoral Supervisor. He successively served as Vice-President of the Development Research Center (DRC) of the State Council, Commissioner of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Minister of the Research Office of the State Council, Governor of Henan Province, Party Secretary of CPC Provincial Committee of Henan, etc. He also served as Member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the People’s Bank of China. Since March, 2018, he has been President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS).

In 1991 and 2001, Xie Fuzhan won the Sun Yefang Prize for Economic Science, and in 1996, he won the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award (the Second Prize). From 1991 to 1992, he was a visiting scholar at Princeton University.

His research fields include macroeconomic policy, public policy, regional development policy, etc. He has chaired and completed such major research projects as the Follow-up Study of the Financial Crisis in East Asia, Policy Research on SOE Reform and Development, Study of Economic Globalization and the Role of Government, Study of Financial Risks and Security, Research on Optimizing the Socialist Market Economic System, Study of Major Issues Concerning China’s Mid- and Long-Term Development and Study of Real Estate Taxation Reform, etc.
