Reforming Europe’s fiscal framework
This event will discuss reforming Europe's fiscal framework in order to make it less complex and more effective.
VIDEO & AUDIO RECORDINGS
On 12 September we were pleased to welcome the Conseil d’Analyse Économique (French Council of Economic Analysis) and the Sachverständigenrat zur Begutachtung der gesamtwirtschaftlichen Entwicklung (German Council of Economic Experts) to present their recent work on fiscal rules.
Their work suggests that the current fiscal framework is too complex and ineffective, and major reform is needed to simplify it. They propose to focus on a reformed expenditure rule as an annual target with the debt criterion as a long-term anchor.
