Michel Colombier

Scientific Director, IDDRI,

Michel Colombier is Co-Founder and Scientific Director of the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations. He monitors emerging subjects and the evolution of the scientific debate, participates in the Institute’s planning process and guarantees the rigour of its work. He is also a member of the High Council on Climate and an associate professor at Sciences Po Paris.

An engineer and economist, he has developed a broad operational expertise in the field of energy and environment, maintaining a strong connection with the University teaching and research activities with University Bordeaux 1 (Science), Paris Nanterre (Economy) and Paris Saclay (Energy). He was previously Director General of ICE (International Consulting on Energy); Senior Advisor to the French Minister of Energy; Head of the “Strategy and Evaluation” Department at ADEME (French Agency for Environment and Energy); and Programme Manager at the Ministry of Environment in Portugal.

He served as a member of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel of the GEF (Global Environment Facility) and the FFEM (Fonds Français d’Environnement Mondial – French Facility for Global Environment). He was also a negotiator in the UNFCCC process and Director of the Board of Climate Strategies (London). He is now Chairman of the Expert Committee for the Energy Transition in France.
